The temple of Kedarnath dedicated to Lord Shiva is visited by many pilgrims every year. Located in the lofty Himalayas, Kedarnath Temple is one of the best known Shivasthalams in India and is considered to be one of the most sacred pilgrimage centers of the country. A large statue of the Nandi Bull is situated outside the temple door and devotees have to trek 14 kms to reach the temple.
The finely architectured Kedarnath temple is said to be more than a 1000 years old. The temple is built of extremely large, heavy and evenly cut gray slabs of stones.
The temple has a conical lingam – the main idol, a statue of Nandi – the celestial bull, a ‘garbha grab’ for worship and a ‘mandap’ for assemblies of piligrims and visitors.
It is believed that by praying to Kedareshwar, one can get all his desires fulfilled.
